Saybrook Stage Company produces "A Piece of My Heart"

From left, Suzanne McCormack, SeHee Lee and Dorian Mendez in "A Piece of My Heart"

The Saybrook Stage Company takes on a drama set during the 1960s and focusing on six women who went to Vietnam.

"A Piece of My Heart" is, in fact, the true story of a group of female veterans of the Vietnam War. It delves into their idealism and camaraderie and also into how they dealt with the impact of the war and with Americans' responses when they came home.

The characters are, as the Saybrook Stage Company describes them, a self-described military brat; a wide-eyed singer; a small-town country girl; a wealthy young women; a nurse from New York City; and a career officer.

"A Piece of My Heart" runs tonight, Friday and Sunday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook.
