Gun rights advocates to rally in Hartford, across country

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A rally for gun rights is planned at the Connecticut state Capitol and capitol buildings across the country.

The event, dubbed "Guns Across America," is scheduled to take place at noon Saturday on the Capitol grounds.

Eric Reed, the Texas-based organizer of the national effort, said the events will be peaceful demonstrations. The event gives lawful gun owners the opportunity to express their concerns about gun control efforts in the wake of the Dec. 14 school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Task forces created by the General Assembly and Gov. Dannel Malloy are considering possible changes to state gun laws, while President Barack Obama has proposed a package of gun control measures.

Gun control supporters are planning a Valentine's Day rally at the Connecticut state Capitol.
