Norwich cop shot in standoff 'on the road to recovery'

The Norwich police officer who was shot four times on Jan. 7 by a suicidal gunman is back home and “well on the road to recovery,” Norwich Capt. Patrick Daley said Tuesday.

Officer Jonathan Ley spent three days in the hospital after being shot by Jason Razzino, 30, during a Cedar Street standoff. Ley was readmitted to the hospital last week in good condition and released a day or two later, Yale-New Haven Hospital spokesman Mark D’Antonio said Tuesday.

Daley said Ley is at home resting. There’s no timetable yet for his return to work, but Daley said he’s in good spirits and “mending up.”

Razzino committed suicide after an hours-long standoff with police. The incident is under investigation by the state police. Ley has not spoken publicly about the shooting.
