New London - Lexus Childs-Harris and Charee Osborne scored 12 points apiece as the New London High School girls' basketball edged Griswold on Monday, 48-44, to qualify for the Class M state tournament for the first time since 2009.

Deanna McCarvill added 11 points for the Whalers (8-5), who had a combined record of 8-52 the past three seasons.

In other games:

• Jamie Hill had 15 points as Montville beat St. Bernard, 42-35. Megan Autencio added 13 points for Montville (11-3). Brittany Walenta had 15 points for the Saints (7-6) and Casey Sullivan added 11.

• Tori Hopkins had 13 points as Morgan downed Old Lyme, 51-31, in the Shoreline Conference. Morgan is 11-2. Hannah Behringer had 11 points for the Wildcats (2-11) and Sloane Sweitzer added 10 points.

Boys' basketball

• St. Bernard, which led only 29-29 at halftime, outscored Montville 33-10 in the third quarter and went on to beat the Indians 76-47.

Brian Harper led the Saints (7-4) with 14 points while Remy Bonser and Paul Pepas added 12 apiece.

Buddy Dewaine and Pat Podeszwa each had 10 points for Montville (4-8).

Men's basketball

• Gabe Levin had 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists to help lead St. Thomas More to a 94-56 victory over Notre Dame Prep. Duane Notice added 12 points and six assists for the Chancellors (19-1) while John McAdoo and Dylan Haines added 11 points apiece.

H.S. hockey

• Zeke Angelini scored in the second period to give unbeaten Northwest Catholic (9-0) a 1-0 win over NFA-St. Bernard-Bacon. Jonah Beauton had 27 saves for the NFA.

• Frank Moreschi had a goal and an assist in St. Thomas More's 4-3 loss to Worcester Academy. Ny Walker and Ryan Kasairz also scored goals for the Chancellors (2-8-1).

Men's swimming

• Connecticut College improved to 6-3 with a 147-75 win over Trinity College. Bo Martin won a pair of events for the Camels, capturing the 200-yard IM (2:03.20) and the 1-mile freestyle (16:42.67.)

Women's swimming

• Seniors Katie Karlson and Jessica Schanzer won events in their final home meet as Conn College routed Trinity 159-64. Karlson won the 200 breaststroke (2:33.11) for the Camels (7-2) and Schanzer captured the 50 freestyle (25.59). Esther Mehesz was a double-winner for Conn, capturing the 200 IM (2:15.86) and 500 free (5:17.92).

College honors

• UConn junior center Stefanie Dolson was named the Big East Player of the Week for women's basketball, the first such honor of her career. Dolson averaged 20.5 points, 8 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week for UConn, including scoring the 1,000th point of her career with a career-best 25-point performance in a victory Saturday over Syracuse.

• Coast Guard Academy sophomore Derrian Duryea was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week. Duryea broke the Coast Guard pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.75 seconds Saturday, leading the Bears to a 178-121 win over rival Merchant Marine Academy. He also won the 200 breaststroke (2:09.49) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:36.89) and 400 freestyle relay teams (3:11.57).

• UConn senior second baseman LJ Mazzilli was named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-America first team for the second straight season. Mazzilli was previously named to the All-America first team by Collegiate Baseball News. Mazzilli was also honored as the Big East Preseason Player of the Year and a member of the All-Big East Preseason team. As a junior, Mazzilli led UConn in almost every major offensive category, including batting average (.339), doubles (19), home runs (9), runs (43) and RBI (38). He was taken in the ninth round (280th overall) of baseball's amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins, but opted to return to UConn.
