    How to Build a Family Tree

    GENEALOGY WORKSHOP, "HOW TO GET STARTED AND BUILD A FAMILY TREE"

    TO BE HELD AT THE BABCOCK-SMITH HOUSE, WESTERLY, RI

    Westerly, RI - A genealogy workshop, "How to Get Started and Build a Family Tree", will be held at The Babcock-Smith House Carriage House, Westerly, RI on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

    This workshop will provide instruction on how to set up your family tree with the aid of a free program available on the internet, as well as on forms that will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring that shoe box full of papers and documents that’s been sitting in the closet. The shoebox might contain birth and death certificates, photographs, family bibles, obituaries, etc.

    Instructions on the correct and consistent way to fill out genealogical charts and citing sources will be provided.

    Participants will examine census records from 1850 - 1930 which reveals valuable information. There will be discussion about on-line resources: which ones are free, and which ones are not. Where to find vital records, probate records, passenger lists, naturalization papers, etc.
