BAA to help raise money for Kelley statue

The Boston Athletic Association has again given five numbers to this April's Boston Marathon to the John Kelley Memorial Fund to help raise money to build a statue honoring the late 1957 Boston winner and two-time Olympian.

Over the next few weeks, the numbers will be sold to those who make a donation to the statue fund. The numbers are the last way into this year's sold out race.

The BAA also gave the foundation five of the "invitational entries," to the 2012 race which it successfully sold.

The donation for the numbers can come from the individual getting the number, fundraising by the runner, corporate donations or a combination of the three.

The group has now raised more than a third of the estimated $90,000 to erect a life-size bronze statue of Kelley is small parklet on West Main Street next to Mystic Pizza.

Coincidentally, Kelley is the only BAA member to have ever won the race.

For more information contact foundation chairman Jim Roy at (860) 941-7683 or info@johnkelley.org.
