Griswold - New London High School rallied from a 33-24 deficit by winning the final two matches to pull out a thrilling 34-33 victory over Griswold on Wednesday night in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division wrestling match.

The Whalers (10-5, 3-2) pulled to within 33-28 when Alejandro earned a 15-6 major decision at 113 pounds, and Mike Commander - needing a pin at 120 - did just that, winning in 3 minutes, 4 seconds to give New London the win.

Sri Louis (145) and Harley Jean-Jacques (160) also earned pins for New London while Danny Maranda (138) and Greg Kohler (170) won by decision.

In other matches:

• Joey Rainville (113 pounds), Stephen Rogers (120) and Ian Concascia (152) all won via pin for Montville in its 37-25 win over Bacon Academy. Kyle Looney (145), Jake Schmalz (160), Pat Bogan (171) and heavyweight Ryan Murtha all won by decision for Montville (12-2).

• Ledyard, the No. 4 ranked team in the state, swept Woodstock, 75-0, in the ECC Large. Derek Schultz (106), Devon MarcAurele (120), Mike Graff (126), Nick Lauer (145), Caile Johnson (160), Colin Grimm (182), Josh Throop (195), Ben Morales (220) and Kevin McDonald (285) all posted pins for the Colonels (13-1, 5-0).

• St. Bernard-Norwich Tech-Wheeler defeated Ellis Tech, 54-20, and lost to Killingly, 43-23, in the ECC Small Division. Matt Dowler won by technical fall (16-0) at 106 and by pin at 113 for the Saints. Against Ellis Tech, St. Bernard's Aaron Pelletier (145) and Mario Lin (132) won by pin while Danny Fields (120) and Cas Woznica (170) won by decision against Killingly. The Saints are 3-16, 0-6.

• Waterford recorded five pins en route to a 61-8 win over Fitch in an ECC Large Division match. Brentt Smith (113), Niko Randolph (126), Sam Lindblom (132), Russell Wade (170) and Jacob Keating (182) had pins for Waterford (12-12, 3-1). Jordan Kenyon won by technical fall (21-5) for Fitch (5-17, 0-6).

College wrestling

• Luke Taylor (174) and Marc Wagner (184) both won two matches by both pin and decision for Coast Guard Academy as it beat Southern Maine (36-18), but lost to Trinity (31-19). Tom Porzillo (133) and James Hegge (141) each won by both pin and forfeit for Coast Guard.

Men's basketball

• Freshman Billy Battaglia had a game-high 19 points as Wheaton used a late 9-0 run to beat Coast Guard Academy, 77-66, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Kevin Sowers had a season-high 14 points and Jimmy Knudsen tied a season-high with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bears (1-15, 0-6).

• St. Thomas More posted its 20th victory of the season, beating Worcester Academy, 85-68. Gabe Levin led the way, finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds and two assists, for the Chancellors (20-1). St. Thomas More's Duane Notice had 18 points and six assists and teammate John McAdoo added nine points and three rebounds.

Women's basketball

• Kaitlin Ward had a season-high tying 14 points and season-high 11 rebounds, as Coast Guard rode a strong second half to beat Wheaton, 48-41, in the NEWMAC. The Bears (7-9, 5-6) outscored the Lyons, 29-19, in the second half. Larla Brown scored 10 points and Karli Collins had four points and nine rebounds for Coast Guard.

Men's swimming

• Coast Guard is ranked No. 22 in the latest Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 Division III poll. The Bears are 6-2 and have placed second at the NEWMAC Championships each of the last four seasons.

H.S. hockey

• Alek Burgess and Ryan Kasiarz each scored two goals, as St. Thomas More broke an eight-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over Harvey School. Frank Moreschi had a goal and two assists and Taevon Walker also scored while Cody Johnson made 21 saves for St. Thomas More (3-8-1).

• NFA-St. Bernard-Bacon Academy scored three unanswered goals to beat Suffield-Granby-Windsor Locks, 5-3. Jason Steele scored two goals and Denzel Dickerson had a goal and an assist while Tyler Faulkner and Isaac Bassham each had a goal for NFA (4-7). Goalie Evan Callahan made 18 saves.

H.S. boys' swimming

• Williams School lost to Wilbraham & Monson 60-32. Caius Mergy won the 100 breaststroke and was second in the 200 individual medley and Adam Collins won the 100 freestyle and finished second in the 50 freestyle for Williams.

H.S. girls' swimming

• Williams lost to Wilbraham & Monson 55-32. Samantha Linhares won the 200 individual medley and came in second in the 100 breaststroke for Williams.
