    Local college roundup: T-More beats Notre Dame Prep in OT

    Bridgton, Maine — St. Thomas More captured the Coaches vs. Cancer Winter Classic Championship, beating Notre Dame Prep, 71-67 in overtime, in prep school men's basketball action Saturday.

    Gabe Levin had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Duane Notice had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists and Denzel Gregg added 12 points and five rebounds.

    The Chancellors improved to 22-1.

    In other games:

    • MIT led 44-21 at halftime and went on to beat Coast Guard Academy 92-66 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Zach Wells came off the bench to score 14 points with seven rebounds, Jimmy Knudsen had 12 points and Devonte Weems eight assists for the Bears (1-16, 0-7).

    • Connecticut College lost for the seventh time in eight games, dropping a 71-41 decision to Wesleyan in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Matt Vadas had 11 points and seven rebounds and John Bullit added nine points for the Camels (6-13, 0-7).

    • Leading scorer Joshua Ford was held to 11 points in Mitchell College's 58-54 loss to Regis College in the New England Collegiate Conference. Ford also had 14 rebounds and seven assists while Anthony Epps had a team-best 14 points for the Mariners (8-9, 4-5).

    Women's basketball

    • Clark placed four starters in double figures and beat Coast Guard 73-61 in the NEWMAC. Victoria Sutherland had 28 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Bears (7-10, 5-7) and Karli Collins had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

    • Regis never trailed en route to a 79-49 victory over Mitchell in the NECC. Senior Kaylee Cerruto paced Mitchell (3-13, 3-7) with 15 points and four assists.

    • Amber Wessells banked in a runner with just 1.8 seconds left to lift the Wesleyan to a 47-46 victory at Conn College. Sophomore Carlee Smith had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Camels (7-12, 2-5).

    Men's track

    • Coast Guard placed fifth at the Springfield Invite. Junior Adam Scalesse broke his own school record while winning the 60 hurdles, finishing in 8.16. His time ranks him as the third best hurdler in Division III. The Bears' 4x400 relay team of Ben Hannon, Noe Kelly, Fred Higgins and Scalesse took first in 3:28.60 while Jordan Lee, Brad Pienta, Erick Jackson and Ryan Hub were third in the 4x800. James Dawkins finished fourth in the 200 and 60, Hannon placed third in the 400, Lee was third in the 600 and Ben Wolhaupter was second in the pole vault.

    • Conn College senior Geoff Phanuef set a school record in the 200 (22.86) at BU's Terrier Classic on Friday.

    Women's track

    • Monet Masters cleared 10 feet to place second in the pole vault and Abby Bishop (16 feet, 10¼ inches) was second in the long jump, helping Coast Guard place fifth at the Springfield Invite. Emily Trudeau and Katie Nielsen were third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put, Beth Gollin took third in the mile and the 4x800 relay team was Kristen Euchler, Jess Mulroy, Meghan Kalinowski and Gollin took third.

    • Conn College sophomore Kim Bolick broke her own school record in the mile with a time of 5:09.12 at Boston University's Terrier Classic on Friday. On Saturday, sophomore Sam Pevear shattered her own school record in the weight throw (43-10½) at the MIT Invite.

    Women's hockey

    • Courtney Dumont's third-period goal lifted Conn College to a 1-0 win over Amherst in a NESC AC game. Caroline Corbett and Justina Germano assisted on the score and Kelsie Fralick made 37 saves for Conn (9-7-1, 5-5-1), which ended a 14-game losing streak to Amherst dating back to 2005.

    Men's hockey

    • John Wickman and Eric Rubino scored two goals each as Williams beat Conn College 5-0 in a NESCAC game. Mike Petchonka (24) and Marcus Calvanico combined for 26 saves for Conn (5-10-3, 1-8-3).

    Men's swimming

    • Senior Nick Poehler and freshman Kyle Smith each won two individual events as Coast Guard beat Clark 140-77. Poehler captured the 200 freestyle (1:49.56) and 500 freestyle (4:55.47) for the Bears (8-2) while with Smith won the 1-meter (1.96) and 3-meter (167.90) diving events.

    Women's swimming

    • Sophomores Sara Cantrell and Darlene Sao each won two events as Coast Guard beat Clark 142-96 for its second straight win. Cantrell won the 1-meter (240.40) and 3-meter (280.55) diving events for the Bears (5-6) while Sao took was first in the 50 (25.76) and 100 (56.19) freestyle races.
