'The Angel Fund' now taking donations for owner of cow shot in face

North Stonington – Those wanting to donate to the fund to help the Wheeler High School senior whose cow was shot last weekend can now do so at Chelsea Groton Bank.

State Rep. Diana Urban, D-North Stonington, said she's been flooded with people wanting to help Asa Palmer after Angel, Palmer's nearly year-old Ayrshire heifer, was shot in the face and eventually euthanized.

"It's restored my faith in people," Urban said Thursday of the support. "This has raised my spirits after dealing with what we're dealing with (in Newtown)."

State police said arrests are pending in the cow shooting, which happened late Friday or early Saturday. Angel was euthanized Monday; a second cow was wounded but is expected to recover.

Urban said donations to "The Angel Fund" can be made in person at any Chelsea Groton Bank branch or by check, made out to "The Angel Fund," P.O. Box 11, North Stonington, CT 06359.

Palmer estimated his cow was worth $800 to $1,000, a figure he said doesn't include anticipated future income from milk and calves Angel would have produced.

Palmer thanked Urban for her support, saying "She's got my vote next time."
