    Local roundup: Colonels clinch at least a tie for Medium title

    Ledyard - Kylie Fustini had 26 points and nine rebounds as the Ledyard High School girls' basketball team downed Waterford Thursday, 63-32, to clinch a share of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division title.

    The Colonels (15-3, 8-1) can clinch the championship outright if they win at home next Tuesday against Windham.

    Michelle Klinikowski had 10 points for Ledyard and Arianna Fustini added eight assists, six rebounds and four steals.

    Vanessa Kobyluck had 12 points for the Lancers (4-12, 4-4).

    In other games:

    • Sloane Sweitzer had 17 points and eight rebounds as Old Lyme beat East Hampton, 40-34, in the Shoreline Conference. Hannah Behringer had 10 points and eight rebounds for Old Lyme (4-12). Meghan Orbann had 13 points for the Bellringers (9-9).

    • Taty LaFrance Boyce scored 17 points and Felecia Cabral had 16 points and 10 rebounds as Stonington rallied to beat Lyman Memorial 60-51 in a nonleague game. Margot Calmar had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Amanda Roy scored 11 for Stonington (10-7). Lyman (9-7) led 34-29 at halftime.

    Men's basketball

    • Joshua Ford had 24 points, seven rebounds and five steals as Mitchell beat Lesley, 72-66, in a New England Collegiate Conference game. Anthony Epps had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals for Mitchell (9-9, 5-5) and Devonta Mosley added 12 points off the bench. Justin Rosa had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Lynx (6-12, 4-5).

    • St. Thomas More lost to St. John's Military Academy of Wisconsin, 76-73, in the National Prep School Showcase at Providence. Duane Notice scored 16 points with four assists and four steals, Gabe Levin had 14 points and five rebounds and Denzel Gregg scored 12 for T-More.

    Women's basketball

    • Amanda Garcia scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds, leading Mitchell College to a 75-56 win over Bay Path in a NECC game. Diamond Thomas scored 18, Suzie Barbosa had 16 points and five assists and Kaylee Cerruto scored 14 for Mitchell (4-14, 4-8).

    H.S. gymnastics

    • Old Lyme's Ashley Detuzzi won the all-around (32.20) during a tri-meet against East Lyme and Windham Wednesday. East Lyme scored 96.65 and Windham had 83.35 points. Old Lyme didn't compete as a team. East Lyme's Juliet Ealahan was second in the all-around (27.9) and teammate Jenny Aylward was third (26.85).

    Connecticut College to hold bone marrow drive

    • The Conn College women's hockey team will hold a bone marrow drive during their two home games Saturday and Sunday against Middlebury. Both games start at 3 p.m. The event is coordinated by captain Molly Murphy in memory of former Yale hockey player Mandi Schwartz, who died from leukemia in April 2011. Schwartz was a teammate of Caroline Murphy, Molly's sister.

    Giorgio ranked No. 1

    • Coast Guard sophomore All-American Nate Giorgio is ranked first nationally at 125 pounds in the most recent D3wrestling.com national rankings. Giorgio is 18-4 this, 15-4 at 133 pounds with three pins, and 3-0 at 125 pounds, a weight he just started wrestling at last week. He placed fourth at 125 pounds to earn All-America honors at last season's NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

    Mazzilli named All-American

    • UConn senior second baseman L.J. Mazzilli picked up his third preseason All-America honor Thursday as he was named to the Baseball America All-America Third Team. He was named a preseason All-America First Team by Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball News earlier this offseason. Mazzilli, who was taken 280th overall by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round of the June 2012 MLB draft, led the Huskies in batting average (.339) and home runs (nine) last season.
