UConn women visit St. John's today

The third-ranked UConn women's basketball team looks for its eighth straight win today when the Huskies play St. John's in a Big East game (2 p.m., SNY) at Lou Carneseca Arena in Queens, N.Y.

UConn (19-1, 6-1) hasn't lost on the road this season and is playing in Carnesca Arena for the first time since beating the Red Storm 77-64 in 2009.

A year ago, St. John's (10-9, 4-3) ended the Huskies' 99-game home win streak when Shenneika Smith hit a late 3-pointer to stun UConn 57-56. The Huskies earned a measure of revenge three weeks later by routing the Red Storm 74-43 in the Big East tournament quarterfinals.

Smith and fellow senior Nadirah McKenith are the starting guards for St. John's and two best players. Smith is averaging a team best 16.5 points and 7.6 rebounds for the Red Storm is McKenith is next at 13.1 points.

UConn is coming off a 76-43 victory over Villanova on Tuesday night. The Huskies feature three Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 picks in forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (16.9 ppg.), center Stefanie Dolson (13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds) and guard Kelly Faris (10.4 ppg.). Freshman Breanna Stewart is the top reserve, averaging 14.5 points and a team high 7.0 rebounds per game.
