A singular sensation: "A Chorus Line" at the Garde

It takes the prize: "A Chorus Line" won the Pulitzer Prize for drama. The 1975 musical walked off with nine Tony Awards, too, including one for best musical. The latest touring production, by American Theatre International, steps into the Garde Arts Center for performances Tuesday and Wednesday.

Smash: "A Chorus Line" revolves around dancers auditioning for a Broadway show. Marvin Hamlisch wrote the music, with lyrics by Edward Kleban. The book is by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante.

Staying power: "A Chorus Line" lasted on Broadway for 6,137 performances, making it the longest-running production ever - till "Cats" ran past that total in 1997. Even so, "Chorus Line" is still the sixth longest-running show.
