New Haven - Ben Ostrowski won the 600 meters in 1 minute, 23.69 seconds and led victories in the 4x800 and sprint medley relays as the East Lyme High School boys' indoor track team finished second at the Class M state championship meet with 42 points.

Team champion New Fairfield won the final event of the night, the 4x400 relay, to lengthen the winning margin. New Fairfield, which led 47-42 entering the relay, finished with 57 points.

Ostrowski joined Scott Butler, Tim Myers and Andrew Bernard in winning the 4x800 in 8:18.75 and later was accompanied by Bernard, Christopher Apicelli and Brandon Dinsmore in taking the sprint medley in 3:45.17.

Dinsmore was also third in the 600, while teammates Jon Combies and Myers were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1,600.

Ledyard's Joe Carter won the 300 in 35.57 and was second in the 55 dash in 6.66, as the Colonels finished fourth with 38 points.

In the girls' portion of the meet, Ledyard's Chenoa Sebastian (55 hurdles, 8.63) and Austin Graber (pole vault, 9-foot-6) and New London's Mercedes Santos (high jump, 5-2) won championships in their events. Ledyard was third with 37.5 points.

Other local top finishers for the girls were Ledyard's Adedoyin Ladoja (second, shot put), Lauren Scahill (third, 1,000), Savannah Johnson (fifth, long jump) and Madison Canestrari (tied for sixth, high jump), New London's Francine Jacque (fourth, 55 dash) and Stonington's Libby Morrison (fifth, shot put).

New London's 4x200 relay was fifth and Ledyard's sixth, while Stonington finished sixth in the 4x400.

Highlights in the boys' meet included local finishers placing one through four in the 300. Following Carter, Ledyard's Alex Paterson was second, Waterford's Chris Jones third and Waterford's Julio Gil fourth.

New London's 4x200 relay team of Jose Garcia, Nico Ramos, Dante Alston and Orrin Parke was second in 1:36.04. Waterford was fifth and Stonington sixth.

Other top local finishers were New London's Ramos (third, high jump), Ledyard's Kyle Wilson (third, shot put), Stonington's Cory Candelet (fourth, 600), Waterford's Jordan Jones (fourth, 55 hurdles), Ledyard's Anthony Saccone (fifth, 55 hurdles), Ledyard's Jeremy Hintz-Valdez (tied for fifth, pole vault), Chris Jones (fifth, 55 dash), New London's Parke (sixth, 55 dash), Waterford's Jordan Jones (sixth, 55 hurdles) and Montville's Jesse Joseph (sixth, 3,200).

Ledyard was fifth and Stonington sixth in the 4x400 relay, while Ledyard added a sixth-place finish in the sprint medley.

• The Class LL state championship, originally scheduled for today, has been moved to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. In addition, the Class S meet has been moved to 4 p.m. Monday and the Class L meet to 4 p.m. Tuesday, also in New Haven.
