Norwich – School buses traversed the city and arrived at schools on time this morning, but school and Public Works officials are still working to clear problem spots at bus stops, city streets and sidewalks.

Today is the first day of school in Norwich since the weekend blizzard.

Superintendent Abby Dolliver and Public Works Director Barry Ellison said they have responded to several areas that needed more clearing for students, including intersections of Merchants Avenue and School Street in Taftville, Greene Avenue and Washington Street, Elizabeth Street and Swan Avenue and an obstructed crosswalk at Wequonnoc School in Taftville.

Dolliver said parents should send emails to her through the school’s message system to alert officials of problem spots.

She has been relaying concerns to Public Works Department crews to send plows and equipment to those areas.

Most sidewalks however are not the city’s responsibility, officials said. Property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of their properties. Residents should contact city police with complaints about impassable sidewalks, Ellison said.
