    H.S. wrestling: Montville's Caskey wins Class S title at 132

    Higganum - Montville's Jake Caskey won the 132-pound championship at the Class S state wrestling tournament on Saturday night at Haddam-Killingworth High School.

    Windham had six individual winners to capture the team championship (238.5 points). Montville was fifth (127.5) and Old Lyme finished 25th (26.5).

    Caskey won a commanding 11-2 decision over Seymour's Dane Christiansen to win his state title.

    Montville's Ryan Murtha was pinned by Windham's Wolfgang Fiasconaro in two minutes, 30 seconds, in the 285-pound final.

    In consolation finals involving local wrestlers, Old Lyme's Lyiam Mathis pinned Joe Rainville of Montville in 2:05 to finish third at 113 pounds, Montville's Tom Wynosky lost a 2-0 decision at 126 to Griswold's Zac Cassidy in the third-place consolation final and Jacob Schmalz of Montville decisioned East Windsor's Richard Jarnot, 9-3, to finish fifth at 160.

    In other class meets:

    • East Lyme's Kareem Small placed second in the Class L 113-pound class, losing to No. 3 Kyle Lindner of New Milford, 12-8. Small, the top seed, had a pair of pins in the early rounds and earned a major decision (14-2) over Farmington's Drew Dahlberg in the semifinals.

    New Milford edged Fairfield Warde, 192.5-189, to win the team championship. East Lyme finished 21st (35), followed by Fitch (31).

    Only one other local wrestler placed in Class L - Fitch's Jordan Kenyon. Kenyon, the top seed at 160, was beaten by Hand's Ben Onofrio 6-5 in the semifinals, but bounced back to take third by pinning Pomperaug's Mike Calo in the consolation semis (4:39) and defeating Masuk's Otton Velez 9-1 in the consolation final.

    • NFA's Tyler Courter (145) and Edgar Charles (160) both placed third at the Class LL meet at Trumbull.

    Danbury scored 215.5 points to win its 17th state title. NFA finished ninth (89.5).

    Courter edged Allen Currier III from Hall, 1-0. Charles downed Xavier's Colin Cunningham, 8-2. In addition, the Wildcats' John Crooks lost a 4-3 decision to Simsbury's Jacob Feldman in the 195-pound consolation final.
