    Poetry, loud and clear

Waterford High School will host a school contest for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. The competition, presented in partnership with the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition. Fifteen students from Waterford High School will participate in the contest, which will take place at the Hygienic Art Gallery, 79 Bank St., New London. The winner will advance to the state Poetry Out Loud contest in Hartford on March 12.

Attendance is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
