Hostess workers to get retraining help

More than 30 former workers at Hostess Brands Inc. in Montville and Norwich are eligible for re-employment assistance, the U.S. Department of Labor announced Wednesday.

The Labor Department certified 34 laid-off workers in Montville and an unspecified number in Norwich as eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance. Throughout the United States, 18,000 former Hostess workers were certified, including more than 1,000 from New England.

The department said the workers' eligibility was based on an investigation that found a rise in imported baked goods was a factor in the failure of Hostess, which announced a nationwide shuttering in November.
