Old Lyme - Fifth-ranked Old Lyme High School rode the efforts of its two senior captains to a wild, 66-59 overtime victory over No. 12 Nonnewaug of Woodbury in the second round of the CIAC Class S boys' basketball tournament on Saturday.

George Logan scored 24 points, going 9-for-10 from the foul line, while Andrew Tyrol added 21, including 12-for-15 from the line, as the Wildcats (19-6) overcame a 15-point third quarter deficit to advance to Monday's quartfinals.

Old Lyme will visit No. 4 Terryville, a 63-34 winner over No. 13 Haddam-Killingworth on Saturday night.

"My two captains didn't want the season to end," Old Lyme coach Kirk Kaczor said. "In the second half they just decided 'we're not ending the season yet,' and then our other players did their parts and we got the job done."

The Wildcats played from behind most of the game. They trailed 20-7 after one quarter and 29-19 at the half. But after Nonnewaug (12-10) scored the first five points of the second half to go up 34-19, Old Lyme roared back to pull even after three, 40-40.

Nonnewaug's Nick Vberti hit a jumper with 10 seconds left in regulation, but Logan rimmed out a 3-pointer at the buzzer and the game went into overtime tied at 54.

After taking the lead in overtime and spreading the floor, Logan went 4-for-4 from the line and Tyrol 2-for-3 as the Wildcats pulled away.

"We have six seniors, so we were expecting to have a good year and be here," Kaczor said. "George (Logan) was a first-team All-Shoreline and Andrew made the second team. In a sport like basketball, when you have two of the top 10 players in the league ... and then have the apieces around them ... you can be very good.

"The other guys have really stepped up around George and Andrew."

In other games:

• No. 3 Bunnell jumped out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter and went on to beat No. 14 Waterford 65-37 in the Class L second round.

Donny Craig scored 14 points to lead for the Lancers (14-10), who moved up in class after winning the Class M title in 2012.

Hockey

• Tyler Faulkner's overtime goal lifted No. 2 NFA-St. Bernard-Bacon to a 1-0 win over No. 7 Sheehan in a CIAC Div. III quarterfinal at Trinity College.

NFA-St. Bernard-Bacon plays No. 3 Rockville-Bolton-Coventry-Lyman Memorial in the semifinals Tuesday at Yale's Ingalls Rink at either 5:30 or 7:30 p.m.

Jonah Beauton made 20 saves for the shutout and Denzel dickerson and Ben Thompson had assists for NFA-St. Bernard (10-11).

Girls' basketball

• Jamie Hill and Cassidy Bundy scored 17 points each for No. 7 Montville, but the Indians (18-7) fell to No. 2 Notre Dame of Fairfield 50-44 in the Class M quarterfinals.

Notre Dame-Fairfield (22-4) put the game away by making 7-of-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Girls' indoor track

• Norwich Free Academy's sprint medley relay team of MiaLynne Park, Camille McKenzie, Dyshelle Pemberton and Brianna Lenehan finished second in the championship race at the New Balance National Indoor Track and Field Championships at the New York Armory with a time of 4:01.84.

Coach Chad Johnson said the quartet are the first female athletes at NFA to earn All-America status.

The Wildcats' time was the second best in the country this year behind winner Hillhouse of New Haven, giving Connecticut the two best times in the country.

The 4x200 relay team of Lauren Kerr, Park, McKenzie and Pemberton set a school record of 1:45.58, finishing 11th in the emerging elite division. Pemberton also broke her school mark in the emerging elite 200, finishing 30th in 25.89.

For Ledyard, Chenoa Sebastian was 28th in the emerging elite's 60-meter hurdles in a school record 9.28 seconds and Lauren Scahill was 21st in the emerging elite 800 meters in 2:20.49.

Boys' indoor track

• Joe Carter, Alex Paterson, Steven Servedio and Alex Hintz-Valdez of Ledyard were second in the 4x200-meter relay's emerging elite division at the New Balance National Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York.

The Ledyard team finished in 1:31.06, running in the seventh of 11 heats in the event. The Colonels held the lead until the final heat, when their time was edged by the IC Norcom team from Virginia in 1:30.38.

Carter followed that by running in the championship division in the 200 meters and finishing 22nd in a school record 22.31 seconds.

NFA's sprint medley relay broke its own school record during an eighth-place finish in the emerging elite division. The team of Martin Lewerk, Joe Trahan, Kobe Amos and Kyle Liang had a time of 3:39.02.
