Groton — The Naval Submarine School’s Safety Department received the Naval Education and Training Command Fiscal Year 2012 NETC Excellence in Safety award in a ceremony in Pensacola, Fla., Monday, March 4.

The award recognizes outstanding performance in safety and risk management in a training and education environment. Rear Adm. Don Quinn, the NETC commander, said it’s critical that good safety and risk management habits be instilled during training because “much of what we do in the fleet is inherently dangerous.”

Dale Rehberg, who is also from the Naval Submarine School, won the NETC individual civilian excellence in safety award. Rehberg and Pearl Grundwalski work in the school’s safety department.
