To the Sports Editor:
I have played and coached basketball most of my life. I was taught that the game is about the players and coaches have a responsibility to honor their players when certain athletic milestones are met.
Alyssa Velles, a Norwich Free Academy junior and potential Division I player, scored her 1,000 point on March 1 in state tournament game at Glastonbury. Neither the game was stopped nor did they honor or celebrate her with the ball after scoring her 1,000th point.
In fact, The Day did not even mention this the following morning. This is a first for me. Was this game even reported to The Day? Is there an explanation for this by the coaches at NFA?
