Afula youth orchestra and singers return

The Afula Singers in their 2011 concert in Stonington.

You might call this an encore presentation. The Afula Youth Orchestra and the Afula Singers are travelling again from their native Israel to southeastern Connecticut - for the third time in the past seven years.

The acclaimed groups will give public performances tonight in Old Lyme and Saturday in New London, with a visit to Waterford High School squeezed in between.

Tonight's show, by the way, will be a joint community concert with the Lyme/Old Lyme Symphonic Band.

The Afula groups have toured Europe before and will follow up their visit here with a Canada tour.

The members of the youth orchestra and choir are recruited young, and they train at the Afula Municipal Conservatory under Betsalel Kuperwasser. The orchestra is conducted by Samuel Gal Alterovich, and choir led by Yoram Zadok.
