Gerald D. Coia, who has been president of Norwich-based Eastern Savings Bank for nearly a decade, has announced he will be stepping down at the end of this year.
Coia, also the bank's chief executive, said in a phone interview that he believes Eastern Savings is well positioned after a new brand launch and name change from Eastern Federal Bank accomplished in January.
"It's been a good run," Coia said. "It was time."
The nearly century-old Eastern Savings already has begun searching for a successor. Coia said he expected to help in the transition before taking his leave.
