The Mystic River Historical Society will present a talk by Bill Peterson titled "Mystic Ships and the American Civil War" at 7:30 p.m. on March 27 at the Mystic Congregational Church Parish Hall.
During the Civil War, Mystic built and owned nearly 80 vessels, most of which participated in the war. Peterson will discuss a few of these vessels, including the ironclad Galena and the wooden gunboats Varuna and Albatross.
The free program is followed by a question-and-answer period and refreshments. For details, call (860) 536-4779 or send email to info@mystichistory.org.
