    Converted to Pre War

    Brooklyn-based Plates of Cake

Ben Johnson and Alex Waxman emerged last year from the detritus of the once-promising indie rock band Conversion Party. Their latest, Brooklyn-based sonic adventure is called Pre War, and they share a bill Friday in New London's Oasis Pub with Plates of Cake, Fatal Film and Radical Dads.

Local music fans remember them both, of course. Johnson, a former Day arts writer, is a graduate of Stonington High School and met Waxman when both were undergrads at Connecticut College. Expect Pre War to trot out garage-happy tunes like "On the Decline" and material from their just-out new EP, "R A W E R P." And look for a full length album in May.

Meanwhile, also from Brooklyn, Plates of Cake have just released a new album called "Teenage Evil."
