Master Chief Culinary Specialist Brody retires after 28 years of service

Groton — Master Chief Culinary Specialist Scott D. Brody, the director of Basic Enlisted Submarine Training at the Naval Submarine School, retired after 28 years of service Wednesday, March 20.

Brody was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Gold Star in lieu of eighth medal, for meritorious service while serving as the head for the Basic Enlisted Submarine Training Department.

Brody worked with 50 staff instructors, 1,200 initial accession students and an average of 30 fleet returnees each day and used his expert understanding of young sailors to guide his instructors in training the next generation of submariners, according to the school. Brody instituted the development of the submarine sailor qualification card, which gave students the tools to become sailors with honor and integrity and reduced conduct-related attrition, as well as devoted many hours to mentoring young sailors, the school said.
