    Some love for Love

The entire world knows many things about Courtney Love - chiefly that she was married to Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, has had her wild days, and was/is the leader of the successful crunch-pop band Hole. But how many of you knew she was a portrait artist? Or that she was so adept at that her work is being featured in a new exhibition, "Mentoring Courtney Love: David LaChapelle and Courtney Love," opening Friday in New London's Lyman Allyn Art Museum? There's a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday - and, yes, Love is scheduled to be in attendance. Her artistic evolution has been overseen and guided by LaChapelle, a renowned artist/photographer whose own pieces are also part of the exhibition.

    The reception is free to members; $10 for non-members. Through Aug. 10. Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams St., New London. Hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sat., 1-5 p.m. Sun.; (860) 443-2545, lymanallyn.org.
