Norwich — The Zoning Board of Appeals on Tuesday closed the public hearing portion of its meeting on a zoning variance request by St. Vincent de Paul Place to operate its soup kitchen on a permanent basis at St. Joseph’s School.
The board took no vote after closing the hearing shortly after 10:30 p.m. Members are expected to vote on the zoning variance at its next meeting on May 14.
Board Chairman Marc Benjamin asked for the public’s comments to focus on the proposed variance rather than the need for a soup kitchen. He said that no one disagrees on the need, but the focus of the comments should be whether the public approves of the application for the soup kitchen’s permanent location at St. Joseph’s.
