Norwich — Crews from the Norwich Public Utilities’ gas division will be replacing the gas main on Main Street in the downtown area starting on Monday.

Crews will begin construction at the intersection of Broadway and Main Street, and work westward on Main Street.  Work will include service renewals on lower Broadway to Washington Street, Market Street, Courthouse Square and Water Street.  This work is a continuation of the gas main replacement project that started last year.

Road closures are not anticipated, but drivers may experience traffic dealys. There may also be ‘No Parking’ signs posted in the construction area.

“This work is necessary to ensure the integrity and safety of our natural gas distribution system,” said Chris LaRose, operations division manager. “Our goal is to complete this work with the least amount of disruption to downtown businesses and traffic flow.”

Anyone with concerns or questions about the project can contact Bill Dewey, construction foreman at (860) 823-4150, or send an email to communitymatters@npumail.com.
