    Saturday is Record Store Day

The great vinyl resurgence continues - and it's the independent record stores that provide the muscular underpinning.

Rejoice, then! Record Store Day is Saturday, and music enthusiasts will flock to indie shops throughout the country to show symbolic support for old-school vinyl and for the mom 'n' pop purveyors of music.

Jack White (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather and honcho behind Third Man Records) is this year's national Record Store Day Ambassador.

In our area, New London's Telegraph celebrates with a full schedule of in-store live music, RSD freebies (as long as they last), and special limited releases. Performance schedule: 2 p.m. Sam Perduta; 3 p.m. Goodnight Blu Moon; 4 p.m. Isaac Young Dup; 5 p.m. John Fries and Corina Malbaurn; 6 p.m. Sidewalk Dave; 7 p.m. Horns of Ormus; 8 p.m. Fatal Film; 9 p.m. Bedroom Rehab Corporation.

In Niantic, the Tumbleweeds Music Shop and Boutique will have storewide discounts, special releases, and live music throughout the afternoon from Raina Mullen.

And the granddaddy of all local indie record stores, Mystic Disc, where every day is Record Store Day and has been since the dawn of time, also celebrates. Yes: giveaways, special releases, and music from DJ Brian Carter.
