Mystic — Stonington police made what could be the biggest drug bust in their history Friday when they seized 50 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $450,000 after it was delivered to a vacant Masons Island home.

Police arrested two Worcester, Mass., residents who they say picked up the large boxes containing plastic bags of marijuana after they were delivered by a shipping company.

Dan Tran, 40, and Cindy Huynh, 27, were each charged with possession of more than 1 kilogram of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Police also seized the two cars they were using to drive away with the marijuana.

Tran and Huynh are each being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond and are scheduled to be arraigned in New London Superior Court Monday if they do not post bond.

With two boxes of the marijuana displayed behind him Friday afternoon, Police Capt. Jerry Desmond said that earlier in the week, police detectives received information that a significant amount of marijuana was going to be delivered to a home on Masons Island.

Desmond declined to release the address of the home or identify its owner, saying the owner was not aware of the drug operation. Desmond said it appears that Tran and Huynh knew the house was vacant and available for rent and when they used the address for the shipment.

Desmond said police intercepted a shipment earlier this week and then apprehended the pair in two cars shortly after they received the latest shipment at about 11 a.m. Friday and were attempting to leave the area.

He commended detectives for their work on the case as well as the assistance of Groton Town police K-9 Officer Richard Savino and his dog Tek for their assistance. He said detectives continue to investigate the case. At this point, he said police do not know if the pair had been using the address on previous occasions. He said he did not know if they had planned to sell the marijuana locally or bring it to another location.
