Connecticut to break ground on new veterans memorial

Hartford (AP) — State officials and military veterans will be gathering in Hartford to break ground on the new Connecticut State Veterans Memorial.

The ceremony is set for 3 p.m. Monday at Minuteman Park near the state armory. Slated to attend are Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz, National Guard officials and veterans from all five branches of the military.

The memorial will honor the more than 1.3 million Connecticut residents who served their country in the armed forces.

The design of the memorial hasn't been revealed yet. Volunteers for a nonprofit group overseeing the memorial have been working with engineers and architects. The group has information posted on its website at cthonorsvets.org.
