New London — The Connecticut Shoreline Chapter of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Foundation will honor National Maritime Day at New London’s Merchant Marine Memorial on Wednesday, May 22.

The public is invited to attend the memorial service at noon at the former Maritime Officers Training School at Fort Trumbull. The memorial is located at New London’s Merchant Marine Memorial Park on Bowditch Street.

After a gun salute, the president’s National Maritime Day Proclamation will be read and a short service will be held. Earl Maxfield, who served in the U.S. Merchant Marine along the East Coast during World War II, will speak.
