CHSCA to honor two NFA coaches

A pair of Norwich Free Academy coaches are among the 26 who will be honored when the Connecticut High School Coaches Association holds its Coach of the Year Recognition Dinner on Thursday, May 9, at the Aqua Turf in Southington.

NFA girls' outdoor track and field coach Kara Kochanski-Vendola and retired wrestling coach Roy Wentworth will be honored along with coaches from 24 other sports at the dinner, which begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $46 and may obtained by contacting John Fontana at (860) 628-4122.

The CHSCA will also honor Joe Canzanella of the New Haven public schools as Athletic Director of the Year while CIAC assistant director Paul Hoey will receive the Joseph J. Fontana Distinguished Service Award and Cromwell's Beth Sarnacki, a past president of the CHSCA, will receive the Thomas J. Monahan Honor Award.

Two other coaches from the Eastern Connecticut Conference will also be honored - Lyman Memorial's Marty Gomez (baseball) and Griswold's Paul Richards (boys' golf).
