H.S. roundup: Ryan lifts East Lyme girls to lacrosse win over Newington

East Lyme - Kiki Ryan scored six goals and had three assists as the East Lyme girls' lacrosse team beat Newington 18-8 in a nonleague game Wednesday night.

Lindsay Schneider had four goals, Belle Kenny had three goals, Jill Bartlett scored twice and had three assists and Kristen Walter had two goals for the Vikings (9-3) and Jane Bartlett made 14 saves.

Alex Zapatha scored five goals for Newington (7-4-1).

Boys' lacrosse

• Charles Maynard had five goals and two assists, but Williams School lost to Forman 23-13. Xavier Mills added four goals and an assist for the Blues while Jack Fader had three goals and four assists.

Baseball

• Waterford broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the seventh and the Lancers went on to defeat East Lyme 5-1 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division. Seth Hoagland broke the tie with a double and Kyle Willoughby later homered. Hoagland and Adam Goss had two hits apiece for Waterford (13-3, 7-2) to back the three-hit pitching of Jordan Hamler, who struck out seven. Anthony Carambot had a hit and scored the lone run for East Lyme (10-7, 4-5).

Boys' golf

• St. Bernard split a tri-match at Foster CC in Rhode Island, losing to Tourtellotte 7-0 in the ECC Small and beating Plainfield 5.5-1.5. Dylan Julian shot the low round for the Saints (3-10, 2-4) with a 44.

Girls' golf

• Katie Strickland of NFA shared medalist honors but the Wildcats went 0-2, losing to host Hand of Madison 197-228 and to Mercy of Middletown 203-228. Strickland and Hand's Caroline Gabriele shot 48s. NFA is 5-4.
