The new Flower Power

Published May 14. 2013 4:00AM

The idea of "Flower Power" doesn't have the exuberant energy that it once did - back before it was ruined by the Partridge Family's bus and then by Spinal Tap doing "(Listen to The) Flower People."

However: prepare for a brand-new and welcome image for the concept. "Flower Power: A Retro Art Exhibition" opens with an artists' reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Pomfret Center at the Celebrations Gallery & Shoppes. Works by 12 local and regional artists will be on display, including Katie Samuelson's "Chair and Table" (shown here). In the thematic spirit of the exbibit, all the pieces feature recycled and repurposed elements. Through June 23. Celebrations Gallery & Shoppes is located at 330 Pomfret St. Hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily; (860) 928-5492, celebrationsshoppes.com.
