Daphne Lee Martin in concert at New London’s 33

It's not fair that artists get to celebrate their own birthdays with performances. What am I going to do on my birthday? Write a blog?

Fortunately, it's not my birthday. Even more fortunately, it IS Daphne Lee Martin's birthday and, tonight in New London's 33, the esteemed singer/songwriter/stylist is hosting a celebratory musical bash. This is all fortuitous because Martin's got an excellent new band and, earlier this year, released the very fine "Moxie" album.

Also filling out the compelling bill are Lipbone Redding and Hannah Fair. Redding is a unique and versatile artist, and Fair's debut CD, "Open Road," is a promising debut of winsome folk-pop.

(BTW, Redding appears at noon today in a special edition of The Day's "Live Lunch Break" from New London's Telegraph record store. Access at theday.com.)

    - RICK KOSTER

    Daphne Lee Martin, 9 tonight, 33, 33 Golden St., New London; $5; (860) 443-1193.
