An evening of funk with George Clinton

George Clinton headlines at MGM Grand Saturday.

Should Bootsie Collins run for mayor of New London? And, while we're at it (and not to be too morbid about it), perhaps we can have James Brown's tomb moved to southeastern Connecticut.

After all, Bernie Worrell played in Westerly last week, and now George Clinton headlines "An Evening of Funk" Friday in the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods. Also on that bill are Morris Day and The Time and the Ohio Players.

Clearly, this whole area is becoming Funk Central.

Fortunately, one can never have too much authentic funk - particularly in the context of Clinton, whose Mardi Gras Indian-from-Outer-Space persona just makes the music that much cooler.
