Mother-and-son writers Christine and Will Schutt at La Grua

I'm not saying my own sainted Mom and I can't throw down a killer Tuna Helper together. But a dual-reading Friday by Will Schutt and his mother, Christine Schutt, taking place in Stonington's La Grua Center, should be a familial high point in creativity.

Will, former Poet in Residence at the James Merrill House, is the author of "Westerly" (Yale University Press, 2013), winner of the 2012 Yale Series of Younger Poets award, and a renowned translator.

And his Mom? Yes, she's been a National Book Award finalist (for her novel "Florida") and a Pulitzer Prize finalist (for her novel "All Souls"). Her latest novel, "Prosperous Friends," has been critically exalted almost universally - and she's also an esteemed short story writer and poet.

A reception and book signing will follow.

    - RICK KOSTER

Will and Christine Schutt, 6 p.m. Friday, La Grua Center, 32 Water St., Stonington; free; (860) 535-2300.
