Coast Guard Academy cadets chosen for American Service Academies Program

New London — Two Coast Guard Academy cadets were chosen to participate in the American Service Academies Program.

Luke Canari and Peter Driscoll are among the 14 students from the service academies that were chosen by the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation to participate in the program, which aims to teach cadets and midshipmen how to examine history, be an ambassador of ethical behavior and take responsibility for upholding these values as a future military leader.

Driscoll said the program gives him the opportunity to learn “from the tragic mistakes and policies of the Holocaust,” which he feels is important because “good leaders constantly absorb lessons that will improve their ability to decide and implement policy.”

The program includes a two-week trip to Poland.
