Norwich — Young Marine Sgt. Maj. Connor P. McMahon retired from the Three Rivers Young Marines in a ceremony at Norwich Free Academy, Saturday, June 8.

McMahon joined the Young Marines in 2006 at age 11 and was promoted to the rank of master gunnery sergeant in 2011. By that time, he had completed the three Young Marines’ Leadership Schools and the four Young Marines’ Guide Books.

Last year he was promoted to the permanent rank of sergeant major after he was named the 2012 Division One Young Marine of the Year. McMahon has received numerous awards, including the Young Marine Distinguished Order of Merit and the Distinguished Service ribbon.

McMahon plans to attend Norwich University in the fall and continue to pursue his dream of becoming a commissioned officer in the Marine Corps.
