State reaches sales deal for portion of Norwich Hospital property

Norwich — The state has reached a purchase-and-sale agreement with a Farmington-based development firm for a portion of the Norwich Hospital property in Norwich for $300,000.

The agreement between the state and Thames River Landing LLC has been forwarded to two legislative committees for approval, the Finance Committee and the Government Administrations and Elections Committee. The committees will have 30 days to review and approve the contract, said Jeffrey Beckham, spokesman for the state Department of Administrative Services.

Mark Fields of Colchester, listed as a member of the firm, declined to comment on the purchase agreement and the company's plans for the property until the sale is final.

Thames River Landing submitted a proposal in June 2010 to Preston for the entire hospital property for a mixed commercial, residential and recreational complex that included an equestrian events center.

Norwich Mayor Peter Nystrom said he spoke recently to Fields about a different development idea, and Fields had informed him that the Norwich Hospital deal was pending.

"We welcome the addition to the grand list," Nystrom said.
