New London - A new advisory committee, appointed by the Board of Education last month, met for the first time Thursday and elected Helen Sandalls as its chairman.
The seven-member Citizens Advisory Committee on Achievement Gap Data will assist the school board in obtaining information before it votes on education policy and operations decisions.
Without a request from the school board, the committee met briefly and decided to meet again at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at Expressiones Cultural Center, at 84 Bank St.
In addition to Sandalls, a retired attorney, other committee members are Sandy Grande, chairman of the education department at Connecticut College; Lauren Anderson, a professor in the education department at Conn; Monika Lopez-Anuarbe, economics professor at Conn.; Elizabeth Rivero, professor at the Coast Guard Academy; Jose Ulloa, co-founder of Expressiones; and Mongi Dhaudi, a member of the New London Parents Advocacy Group.
