North Stonington — An 11-year-old local girl is being treated for serious head injuries at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford after being run over by a 17-foot ski boat on Wyassup Lake Saturday afternoon.

According to Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Dwayne Gardner, the girl lost her balance and was thrown from the boat, which was being operated by her uncle, also a North Stonington resident. DEEP received the call around 12:45 p.m. Saturday. The girl was transported by ambulance to Backus Hospital, then flown by Life Star helicopter to Hartford.

The girl was still in the hospital as of Sunday afternoon, though her condition is unknown, according Gardner. The DEEP is investigating the incident.
