Reader recalls Morgan's long ago last 'adventure'

I find it interesting that the Charles W. Morgan will soon make its first sea voyage in over 72 years.

I am, perhaps, one of the few survivors of its last voyage in 1941 as one of several Sea Scouts from Mystic who were taken to New Bedford to sail under tow on its voyage to the Mystic Seaport Museum.

We had the chance to wander all over the ship and climb all over its rigging. In the captain's cabin my friend, Walter, and I discovered below the captain's horsehide cushions on his semi-circular settee, a hidden storage space for his liquor. It still contained several bottles of rum and wine!

Walter, more daring than I, sampled them and found them still good.

    It was a memorable adventure!
