Unregistered firms pay state $1.3 million

Published July 17. 2013 4:00AM

Pay me now or pay a lot more later.

That's the message from Connecticut authorities who say they collected more than $1.3 million during the past fiscal year from companies doing business in the state without legally registering.

Top violators and their fines were: MTS Systems Corp. of Minnesota, $54,570; Ventura Foods LLC of California, $35,235; Katherine Cowdin Inc. of New York, $23,437; Amdocs IT Services LLC of Missouri, $22,005, and Tecan U.S. Inc. of North Carolina, $20,895.

Companies face $300 in fines for every month they operate outside the law. Penalties collected last fiscal year were from 261 out-of-state firms.
