Author Stephen Kiernan in Mystic program

Stephen Kiernan's first novel is called "The Curiosity," and it magically fuses elements of romance, "Frankenstein" and "Flowers for Algernon" - all swirling together amidst the possibilities of speculative cryogenics.

Dr. Kate Philo heads a scientific team that discovers a body that's been frozen in Arctic ice since 1906. Not only does the team resuscitate Jeremiah Rice, but he and Philo begin to develop feelings for one another. Can their relationship withstand increasing cultural and scientific pressures against actuarial realities? At 6:30 p.m. tonight, Kiernan is guest of honor at a barbecue dinner on the deck of the Oyster Club, 13 Water St., Mystic. The event is co-sponsored by Bank Square Books. Admission of $50 includes signed first-edition hard cover of "The Curiosity," dinner and discussion with author.
