East Lyme - The Republican Town Committee endorsed incumbent Paul Formica for first selectman at its caucus Monday.
Formica, a Republican elected in 2007, is seeking his fourth term in office. The Democratic Town Committee did not endorse a candidate for first selectman at its caucus last week.
Incumbents Holly Cheeseman, Kevin Seery and Deputy First Selectman Mark Nickerson were nominated for spots on the Board of Selectmen.
The committee nominated Robert J. Kupis, Albert L. Littlefield and Marlene Popeo Nickerson for the Board of Education. Camille F. Alberti, Stephen F. Harney, Raymond J. Hart and Steven J. Kelley received endorsements for the Board of Finance.
The slate also included Mary Ann Salvatore for the Board of Assessment Appeals; Joan A. Bengtson, Ernest Covino, Rita L. Franco-Palazzo, Brian Schuch, John Birmingham (alternate) and Michael D. Hess (alternate) for the Planning Commission; Norman B. Peck III, Marc Salerno, Matthew J. Walker and James Liska (alternate) for the Zoning Commission; John H. McCulloch for tax collector; Lesley A. Blais for town clerk; and Bruce R. Brailey for town treasurer.
Cheeseman, the Republican Town Committee chairwoman, said the votes on Monday were unanimous. She remarked that it was a great privilege to have a wonderful slate of both incumbents and first-time candidates.
"I find it very rewarding that people want to step up and serve the community," she said.
