All along Lyme Street, the Midsummer Festival beckons

    Wait, it's midsummer already?

    Damn.

Well, there is one good thing about the warm season being halfway gone: It's time for the Old Lyme Midsummer Festival.

On Saturday, venues along Lyme Street - notably, the Florence Griswold Museum, the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and the Lyme Art Association - serve up a range of entertainment and activities.

A sampling of what you can see:

Poor Old Shine gives a bluegrass concert at 7 p.m. Friday along the banks of the Lieutenant River at the Florence Griswold Museum.

The Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts opens its exhibition of selected student work with a 5-7 p.m. reception Friday and continues its run Saturday. On Saturday, it hosts an 11 a.m. talk by Colleen Plimpton, author of "Mentors in the Garden of Life," and it offers concerts on the Midsummer Festival Youth Music Stage from 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

The Lyme Art Association holds an open gallery from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, along with floral offerings from the Lyme Garden Club and a chance for artists to draw or paint animals on canvas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Saturday at the Flo Gris, you've got: Market En Plein Air and an artisan fair featuring jewelers 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; Parading Paws Dog Show, with judging at 10:30 a.m.; Master Potter Guy Wolff and author Suzanne Staubach 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Hands-On/Minds-On, with creative projects provided by area cultural organizations 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
