It's been a whole week since we've published a photo of the Mystic Seaport's historic whaleship Charles W. Morgan. Given the coverage time I've committed to the story of late that is something of a gap.

Now, really, there have been many and longer gaps in the publication of photos and stories about the Morgan. I know for a fact that from July of 2010 until February of 2012 I didn't record a single image of the various works going-on around the ship.

But as any regular reader of The Day will know the last few months as the staff at the seaport's H.B. duPont Preservation Shipyard have been preparing the ship for launch there have been more regular photos in the paper.

The launch, last Sunday, July 21st, the 172nd anniversary of the original launch of the ship in New Bedford, Massachusetts, will probably mark the beginning of some more down-time in published images. Though, don't hold me to that, it's possible I'll make a photo during the coming months that will call-out to be shared.

In the meantime, this image, taken Monday morning following the launch, will be the first image shared in a week.

The last time I saw the Morgan afloat in the river was in October of 2008 when it was moved from Chub's Wharf at the north end of the seaport to the dockside at the shipyard in preparation for November 1st when it would be lifted from the water to start the restoration process.
