L+M seeking volunteers for Gentle Touch, Guided Imagery program

Published August 03. 2013 4:00AM

New London - The Volunteer Department at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital is recruiting volunteers for a unique program designed to help relax and comfort patients through Gentle Touch and Guided Imagery.

Prospective volunteers can learn about this “hands-on” program in an informational meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 in Baker Auditorium at the main hospital.

Those who want to continue with the required training will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 16, also in Baker Auditorium.

The special training includes coordination by Jamie Nadeau, volunteer coordinator and certified Gentle Touch trainer. The focus of the program is gentle touch to hands and feet, as well as using guided imagery designed to relieve the stresses patients often face.

Volunteers will be required to complete volunteer registration and health testing and will be asked to make a minimum six-month commitment to this program. Upon the successful completion of their training, volunteers can be scheduled for days, evenings and weekend assignments, depending on availability.

Interested candidates should contact the Volunteer Office by Aug. 12 at (860) 442-0711, extension 2475.
